about
Alzheimer's is a disgusting, brutal, unforgiving disease. Most think that it is simply a "mind-theft" illness that creeps up and steals your memories. It's more than that. It has a Doppler effect on those surrounding the affected individual.
In particular, spouses. The old saying goes, "You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family." However, there is something uniquely special, and different, when you pick your spouse. This song is a representation of what couples go through when that unfortunate moment comes, when Alzheimer's takes you and your love on that slow ride down the river.
lyrics
Lyrics:
Well you know that it’s been some years
A lot of love and a lot of tears
Four girls and endless memories
Through your eyes I could believe
(And) Now your mind has gone
But my love’s still strong…
Don’t forget me
As you’re sailing
Down the river
Don’t forget me
One day I’ll run out of time
(I) Want you to know that my heart was blind
Before I sail away
I’ll hold you again someday
(And) Now your mind has gone
But my love’s still strong…
How could you even leave me?
In this prison here..
I’m in a valley of despair
(I) Leave my heart in your care
Don’t forget me
As you’re sailing
Down the river
Don’t forget me
As you’re sailing
Down the river
Don’t forget me
As you’re sailing
Down the river
Don’t forget me
